Heading Back to an Old Favourite … Aberystwyth

Woolly says – Another cold start to the day and as we hit the mountains, I realised that my carer might actually have been right in suggesting more layers and something waterproof instead of my rather fetching Christmas outfit. I sat watching the wipers move the sleet out of the way and turned the car heater up another notch. Today wasn’t a new place in fact the complete opposite but Jo felt the need to check on the rental van so we were headed to the delights of Aberystwyth. Because we have blogged so much from there previously (the human will put the links below) even I would be stretching it to try and write more.

We headed into Clarach Bay and once the two legged one had checked everything over, I sat in the car watching the mad dog race up and down the rain soaked beach as Jo trudged along behind him. Once he seemed to have exhausted that area we headed into the town of Aber with no particular plan.

Having parked nearly outside the flat we once lived in on the front we wandered along the prom, the lovely thing about this place is that it really never changes which includes the need for the pier to have a paint job!

I’ve lost count of the number of times I have walked that route to start a shift or to finish one and head back through wind, rain, sleet and hail but I still love it.

Woolly says – With the tide at a high point and with rather large waves we decided against heading onto the beach and instead made our way round to the castle. The grey clouds didn’t help give it much in the photogenic stakes but as Alfie the Dog hadn’t seen it, we took him round explaining its history and importance during its golden years, needless to say he loved it.

With the rain teeming down even the panting hound seemed eager to jump back into the car where we warmed up and consumed our fish and chips from what I consider to be the best chippy in the world and I should know having sampled them in many countries.

Always a pleasure to go back just a shame the weather wasn’t in agreement and making itself more amenable for us, it just means we’ll have to come back again to show Alfie the Dog what it’s like on a sunny day.
